Attracted to the family’s beautiful, loving, and widowed daughter Temperance (Deborah Kara Unger), the hard-bitten gunfighter is transformed from a man with a history of violence into a man of peace. Unfortunately, the leader of the outlaws, Laredo (Luke Perry), won’t let his past die.

What is your favorite John Wayne film?
My favorites are:
Wake of the Red Witch
Reap the Wild Wind
Quiet Man
Angel and the Badman

OMG.
"Red River" John Wayne and Montgomery Clift.
"Stagecoach"
"They Were Expendable"
"The High and the Mighty"
"The Sea Chase"
"The Searchers"
"The Longest Day" – The ship I served on was in the film.
"In Harm’s Way"
"The Cowboys"
"The Shootist"

This is on top of the ones you have.

But I guess the best was "The Sea Chase" or maybe "Red River". Then again it might be "The Searchers". Hell I don’t know.

I feel like religion is for the weak at times. Whats your criticisms and thoughts?
A lot of times I feel like religion is for the weak and hopeless…

I know religion isn’t really for the weak, but when I think of people who join a religion based on desperation. I feel otherwise; It feels like people just want the easy way out. They aren’t making the decision because they truly believe in it, but want a escape.
It bothers me sometimes.

yeah i’ll be harshly criticized. Go for it.

You are wrong in one point.

Where you say "I know religion isn’t really for the weak"

You are wrong there…religion is certainly only for the weak..the weak minded.

Weak minded people who are unable to make conscious decisions for their own lives and their own selves…

Weak minded people who don’t know right from wrong without being told what it is…

Weak minded people who need justification that they are more important than they actually are..

Weak minded people who need to impose their views (sometimes violently) on others…

The very weak in our society who need to be protected and treated…not given justification for their own delusions.

Religion for the most parts is strongest among the uneducated, I think that says it all.
Omen | Feb 05, 2010

Not necessarily "weak minded", religion is FOR people that need to feel control over things which they are powerless.
What religion DOES is where it gets sticky because people will use it to have power over others.

Houssein | Feb 05, 2010

yeah all religions do is get in the way and cause more problems than what we need!

Atheist ism (non religion) should be the way of life… atheists believe we should build a hospital rather than a church! and from the sounds of it a church just sucks up your time and money for something wasteful!
Dragon | Feb 05, 2010

Maybe religion is for some to feel a sense of belonging to a group or a higher purpose. Maybe to think we humans is as far as it goes when it comes to life and intelligence is hard to grasp and quite depressing, so religion gives us the freedom to live knowing that something bigger and better than us does have the power.

Hi kelvin. The concept of Religion was actually putforth to control the masses. People who are out of their ways and lost are the ones who seek religion. They just find some comfort and nothing else. Its psychological. As you said its certainly for the weak. You can see the proofs for yourself. Look around you and observe the people who are very spiritual, they should have been losers in one or the other way. Meanwhile, people who know to drive their own destiny by intelligence dont seek god because they dont have time to. Most of the strong are not religious. Hope this helps. Also i invite you to Religion and Spirituality room where we debate about it a lot. Its more interesting than philosophy. tc
moby | Feb 05, 2010

Religion is often for people who feel like they need to believe in the same things the other people in their society believe in. In some cases they do it out of fear. In those cases, it may be just weak mindedness, or it may be self preservation. Nobody wants to be an outcast, and who knows what the truth is, anyway, so why not just go along with it… (that’s the thinking, anyway.)

But few people who strongly believe in a religion can admit it is for any reason other than their personal grasp of the truth. They may change their religious beliefs only when they feel they have learned some better truth than what they had known before. This feeling is genuine and unshakable in such people. It is as real to them as any sense of truth you have yourself. So to realy criticize such people, you first have to admit that your own sense of what is true may be just as faulty, and your mind may be just as weak at times, just about different things.
edetwi | Feb 05, 2010

I think jesus was based on someone that went around telling people to feel good. And then someone changed his name to jesus and started controlling people with it for evil.
There have been scientific studies that display the power of emotion on the world.
When enough people in the world at one moment are feeling peace and contentment, crime rates and murders drop for the amount of time those people are concentrating on feeling peaceful and content. But the very "field of we don’t know what" that allows energy to be turned into matter in the universe responds to human emotion for some reason. Some people call it the Higgs-Boson field.
There have been quite a few books written about this.
I think theistic religions may have been started to preach this… but then were corrupted one by one.
They only "religion"(and I call it that loosely) that seems to be of good use and not corrupted is buddhism. It just teaches well being.
Nowadays though, the biggest religions are for people hiding from problems that if they took a little time to think about, they could solve. People are lazy though and want someone to tell them the "truth" instead of finding it themselves.
DMT | Feb 05, 2010

There’s many religions, there’s only one God.

God is good. Choosing to follow God means that one chooses good over evil.

What’s weak about that?
Neariah | Feb 05, 2010

I take it you mean orthodox, institututionalized religion.

Four factors are involved here, power, presumption, guilt and fear. First you claim authority ‘from above’, albeit by all-too-worldly ceremony, then you instil guilt, the guilt of sin -and it is of the ‘original’ kind, there is no way to escape, you are born with it – then you create a hell as a punishment for that and other sins, then you invent a rite through which the sinner may be delivered and by which you can keep tabs on the goings-on in the community, the whole contributing to your livelihood. Very clever indeed and very church-like.

It is amazing that so many still fall prey to this elaborate ploy.

Plot: Set in the early 20th century, the film follows the rise to power of Daniel Plainview — a charismatic and ruthless oil prospector, driven to succeed by his intense hatred of others and psychological need to see any and all competitors fail. When he learns of oil-rich land in California that can be bought cheaply, he moves his operation there and begins manipulating and exploiting the local landowners into selling him their property. Using his young adopted son H.W. to project the image of a caring family man, Plainview gains the cooperation of almost all the locals with lofty promises to build schools and cultivate the land to make their community flourish. Over time, Plainview’s gradual accumulation of wealth and power causes his true self to surface, and he begins to slowly alienate himself from everyone in his life.

I need you help for a text!?
My english teacher told me to write the summary of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, from Mr Utterson’s point of view.

Can you tell me the mistakes??

I didn’t really liked Mr Hyde since the first time I met him. I didn’t approve the friendship between him and Dr.Jekyll, beacuse it was Mr Hyde’s fault if Jekyll became sad and worried. One night the police phoned me and asked me to go to a street where a man had been killed. I went there and after I recognized the victim, I went to Mr. Hyde’s house where I found his stick, the murder weapon. After the murder Mr Hyde ran away and Dr Jekyll was happy again. One night Poole, the servant, came to my house and asked me to go to Dr. Jekyll’s laboratory beacuse he was locked in. I went there and I broke down laboratory’s door, and I found Jekyll’s corpse and some letters. I read them so I figured out that Hyde was Jekyll’s evil part, and he lived in his same body. Dr Jekyll understood Mr.Hyde was dangerous, he tried to stop him but he couldn’t, so he decided to commite suicide: this was the only way to stop Mr Hyde for ever

Since the first time I met him, I didn’t like Mr. Hyde. I didn’t approve OF the friendship between him and Dr.Jekyll, BECAUSE Mr Hyde MADE Jekyll sad and worried. One night the police phoned me and asked me to go to a street where a man had been killed. I went there, and after I recognized the victim, I went to Mr. Hyde’s house where I found his stick, the murder weapon. After the murder, Mr Hyde ran away, and Dr Jekyll was happy again. One night, the servant Poole came to my house and asked me to go to Dr. Jekyll’s laboratory BECAUSE he was locked in. I went there and broke down THE laboratory’s door, WHERE I found Jekyll’s corpse and some letters. I read them AND CAME TO UNDERSTAND that Hyde was Jekyll’s evil part INHABITING THE same body. Dr Jekyll understood THAT Mr.Hyde was dangerous. He tried to stop HYDE, but couldn’t, AND SO decided to COMMIT suicide. This was the only way to stop Mr Hyde FOREVER.

Also, where you say that Mr. Hyde made Jekyll sad and worried, did the character refer to Dr. Jekyll as "Jekyll," or would he call him "the doctor"?

You need some work on the use of commas and run on sentences. But otherwise very good.

TychaBrahe | Jan 25, 2010

Hello,

I can see a couple of errors that you have made:

Several places you put Mr without the . behind and several places you also put Dr without the period behind. Also, you need a space between was happy again. One night … You need ot put a space between again and One. You also need to put I broke down THE laboratory door.

I hope this helps you.

If you were God, would you love the sinners/wickeds and die for them?
Would you die for Hitler in order to save him from hell?
Valtor, logical answer but what you don’t know is that God’s way is always better…sure he created evil but his purpose is for the humans to learn that evil happens when we disobeyed His righteous commandments. If you were God you have every right to punish the sinners and the wickeds…am I right? The Jews I believed were punished during the holocaust, maybe because of their false beliefs!

I don’t play the "If I were God" game because the results would be scary. How would I balance giving man the ability to lead his own life but still require justice and show mercy? How, if I were God, would I prevent Hitler’s parents from beating him and prevent him from hating the Jews and becoming a demented tyrant? Would I just destroy him at birth to prevent him from growing into that kind or person? Would I destroy his parents so they couldn’t do that? If I did that, wouldn’t the atheists accuse me of being cruel for killing people that were outside my will? Would I just prevent his parents from being able to have children? Would I do that to everyone I knew might do evil even if they also had the innate ability to also do good? Would I just control the minds of every human being and make every action work for the good of everyone so that every life were exactly equal and all was fair, just, and good for everyone? Would that be depriving people of the right to live their life and make their own choices? I definitely don’t want to play God for even one minute.

Take the Lead (2006)

IMDB rating: 6.60

Plot: Based on a true story, the movie tells of the struggle of a dance teacher, Pierre Dulain (Antonio Banderas), to give to a group of problem kids a second chance by exploring their dance skills. One night Dulain is astonished to see a boy, Rock (Rob Brown) destroying his school director’s car. The following day Dulaine goes to the school to ask for a job as a dance teacher. The director has little confidence in Dulaine’s idea of helping kids (including Rock) in detention to reform through ballroom dance classes. Even the kids, who prefer hip-hop or rap, think it isn’t a great idea. Despite criticism from students in his formal dance academy as well as from parents and fellow teachers who believe that the kids need more math and less dance, Dulain catches the students’ attention with a tango session. After their initial indifference, they eventually compete in a dance contest; the important thing isn’t winning, but making a difference.
